How do I assess the quality and authenticity of an influencer’s followers?
Learn how to identify genuine and engaged audiences with IROIN®.
Checking Follower Authenticity
In the IROIN® Discovery module, you can analyze the authenticity of an audience by setting a threshold in the advanced filters under “About the Audience” – this feature is included in Discovery Pro+. Set the value to at least 80% to display only profiles with high authenticity. A value below 70% often indicates issues such as mass followers or suspicious accounts.
The Discovery Report provides detailed insights: followers are categorized into real people, influencers, mass followers, and suspicious accounts. A high proportion of real people and influencers indicates a strong profile, while many mass followers or suspicious accounts suggest purchased or inactive followers that could weaken your campaign.
Assessing Follower Quality Through Engagement
Follower quality can also be evaluated based on interactions. In the Discovery Report, you can analyze the engagement rate, which shows how active the community is. A high like rate relative to the number of followers indicates an engaged audience. Also, check the ratio of likes to comments: a low interaction rate despite a high follower count may suggest fake followers. Additionally, the “Interactions of Recent Posts” timeline reveals patterns in engagement, helping you identify which content performs particularly well and whether the engagement appears natural.
Analyzing Follower Growth and Demographic Fit
Another indicator of quality is follower growth. Consistent, organic growth signals genuine reach, while sudden spikes may indicate purchased followers. In the Discovery Report, you can also analyze demographic fit: do the followers’ age, gender, and location align with your target audience? An unusual or overly broad demographic can be a warning sign. With these insights, you can select influencers whose followers are genuine, active, and relevant for your campaign.
Understanding the Importance of Follower Classification
In the Discovery Report, IROIN® categorizes followers to give you a clear insight into the composition of an audience. Real people are accounts representing actual individuals, while influencers are other active content creators following the profile. Mass followers, on the other hand, follow numerous profiles simultaneously and appear less authentic, and suspicious accounts indicate purchased or inactive followers.
A high proportion of real people and influencers – ideally over 80% – indicates a strong and authentic profile. If the value is below 70%, caution is advised, as this may suggest many mass followers or suspicious accounts that could reduce the effectiveness of your campaign.
