Why do engagement rates and other data differ between the portfolio statistics and the Discovery Report?
Explanation of why the engagement rate or follower counts for Instagram profiles, with or without IROIN® Connect, differ in the portfolio statistics compared to the Discovery Report.
The engagement rate in the Discovery Report and the engagement rate under Statistics, as well as other data, differ because they are based on different calculation methods. While the statistics data comes directly from Instagram and is fully available only for Instagram profiles connected via IROIN® Connect, IROIN® uses its own analysis for the Discovery Report. These differences arise due to technical limitations – for TikTok and YouTube, there is no direct engagement data from the platforms, so only the IROIN® calculation is used.
How does Instagram calculate the engagement rate?
The engagement rate listed under Statistics is based on the last 28 days and includes all posts published during that period. The calculation uses the influencer’s total follower count as the basis, without distinguishing between active and inactive followers or fake profiles.
How does IROIN® calculate the engagement rate?
The engagement rate in the Discovery Report is calculated by IROIN® based on the last 90 days or the last 30 posts. Here, not only the total follower count is considered, but engaged profiles are identified – followers who actually interacted with the most recent posts. This forms the basis for extrapolation to the entire community.
-
The calculation is based on up to 30 posts within the past 90 days.
-
Older but particularly successful posts are included.
-
Fake or inactive followers are largely filtered out to provide a more accurate assessment.
Which method provides more precise data?
-
Instagram Statistics: Provides a general engagement rate for all followers, without distinguishing between active and inactive accounts.
-
IROIN® Discovery Report: Provides a more detailed analysis based on the actual activity of the community.
Instagram statistics show a snapshot of the last 28 days for all followers, whereas IROIN®’s Discovery Report provides a deeper analysis of the actively engaged community over the last 90 days. This offers a more accurate assessment of a creator’s true reach.
