Can I search for Stories in Discovery?

Understand why you cannot search for keywords, hashtags, or mentions in Stories

A systematic search for specific keywords in Stories is not possible in the IROIN® Influencer Marketing Suite because it would conflict with GDPR regulations. Stories are designed as temporary content and cannot be stored or analyzed over long periods to protect users’ privacy. Here’s why this is the case and what alternatives you can use to find thematically relevant influencers.

Technical and legal limitations

  • Data protection (GDPR): Automated long-term analysis of Stories would involve storing personal data without the users’ explicit consent, which violates GDPR. Stories are often seen as particularly personal, so unauthorized processing is prohibited.

  • Technical effort: Our database contains over 410 million profiles worldwide. Continuously analyzing Stories is extremely difficult, if not impossible, because they disappear after 24 hours and cannot be archived.

  • Legal uncertainty: Even if competitors offer such features, the data collection is either incomplete or non-compliant. GDPR-compliant analysis would require explicit consent, which is hardly feasible at scale.

Alternative ways to analyze themes

Even without direct keyword search in Stories, you can still find creators who regularly cover certain topics:

  • Content search: Use the search function to scan publicly visible content like feed posts and Reels for keywords. Enter terms such as “fitness,” “vegan,” or “travel” to discover influencers who regularly create content on these topics.

  • Thematic filtering: Filter creators by categories or hashtags that shape their posts and videos, e.g., “#SustainableFashion.” If they regularly cover these topics, it’s highly likely they also address them in their Stories.

Strategy takeaway

While a comprehensive Story analysis isn’t possible due to GDPR, these alternatives provide effective ways to identify thematically relevant influencers and plan successful campaigns.
